With effect from April 1st. 2009 The Reserve Bank of India has issued a directive to all banks that henceforth no ATM usage charges will be levied either by the ATM card issuing bank or those banks whose ATM’S are used by other bank’s ATM cards, for the purpose of balance inquiry or cash withdrawal. This reform was brought about after a lot of pressure from the public, as there was no transparency of ATM charges, earlier. Each bank had its own hidden charges; therefore in public interest and to provide more transparency The RBI has issued this directive, which is a welcome relief to all customers.
